Edinson's Story: A New Beginning

Edinson's Story: A New Beginning

When five-year-old Edinson arrived at Helping Hands Orphanage in December 2025, he carried no suitcase, no family records, and no one to speak on his behalf.

He was brought to us by the Dominican National Police after officers discovered him

during a drug raid. Hidden quietly in a corner, Edinson was completely alone. Despite an extensive search, authorities were unable to locate his parents, relatives, or anyone who knew his story.

The police believe Edinson was being raised with the intention of being exploited through human trafficking. There are no official records of his family, no known last name, and no documented birth date. His past is largely a mystery.

But his future no longer has to be.

Today, Edinson is a happy, affectionate little boy whose smile lights up every room. He loves giving hugs, enjoys being held, and eagerly seeks the comfort and security every child deserves. At times he cries very easily, a reminder that even young hearts carry deep wounds. Healing from trauma takes time, patience, and unconditional love.

When Edinson first came to Helping Hands, he did not know his colors or many of the basic skills most children his age had already learned. Yet what he lacked in education, he more than made up for with an incredible desire to learn. He loves listening to stories, asks questions with wide-eyed curiosity, and celebrates each new accomplishment. Every day brings another small victory.

Perhaps the greatest sign of hope is found in the names he now uses. He lovingly calls our director and his wife "Mama" and "Papa." After a beginning marked by uncertainty and loss, he has found something every child longs for, a place where he is safe, loved, and part of a family.

Edinson's story is far from over. With continued care, education, counseling, and the support of people who believe every child deserves a future, he has the opportunity to grow into the man God created him to be.

Every child who comes through our doors has a story. Some begin with heartbreak. Through God's grace and the generosity of people like you, we are helping write a different ending, one filled with hope, healing, and opportunity.
